Acupuncture and Chinese medicine for wellness

FAQs

Does acupuncture hurt?

Does it help you to know that you can fit 40 acupuncture needles inside of a regular (hypodermic) needle used for blood tests? The acupuncture needles are really tiny; they are thinner than a strand of your hair.

Most people feel a gentle pressure, then a tap, and that is all. Acupuncture is so relaxing that some people even have a little nap or into a deep meditative state during their sessions.

Some people also feel these sensations:

  • a gentle warmth in the local area

  • a deep ache, similar to a tight muscle that is slowly releasing

  • a brief electric-like sensation that only lasts a few seconds

  • a heaviness of that area of the body

If you feel any other sensations, please let your friendly experienced acupuncturist know, as the needle may need to be adjusted slightly for your comfort

Is there any scientific evidence for acupuncture?

I’m so glad you asked. There is so much good quality research into acupuncture. Evidence for the use of acupuncture for various conditions are growing exponentially. The quality and quantity of research into acupuncture‘s effectiveness is increasing. In fact, over the past 20 years, research into acupuncture as a medical treatment has grown; and is growing at twice the rate of research into conventional biomedicine. Isn’t that amazing?

“It is no longer possible to say that the effectiveness of acupuncture can be attributed to the placebo effect or that it is useful only for musculoskeletal pain.”
