Ear acupuncture or auricular therapy has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to stimulate specific points on the ears. Auriculotherapy can be used on its own or in conjunction with a regular acupuncture treatment session. It has been said that “The ear is the place where all of the acupuncture energy channels meet”.
During the treatment short, thin acupuncture needles will be used to stimulate the relevant ear points. It may also be useful to prolong the benefits after the acupuncture session with longer stimulation of the external ear points. This is done by attaching tiny inconspicuous beads or pellets to the outer ear points with clear adhesive tape. These do not penetrate the skin and may be left in place for a few days or until they simply fall off. Pressing or gently rubbing these ear seeds will assist the acupressure.
To obtain long term benefits several treatment sessions may be required over a period of time and this will depend on the individual..
Ear acupuncture can be helpful for a variety of conditions.
